When you hear the name Seinfeld, what might come to mind is funny man, Jerry Seinfeld, star of one of TV’s greatest shows ever. But what should also come to mind is Jerry’s amazing wife, Jessica Seinfeld, who is the mother to the couple’s three children, an author, and a philanthropist.

This morning, while attending the launch of Bravado Designs limited edition nursing tank designed by fashion icon Rebecca Minkoff, I had the chance to sit down in an one-on-one interview with Jessica to chat about motherhood, her inspiration behind her non-profit organization Baby Buggy, and her feelings on the collaboration with Bravado Designs.

Jessica is such an inspiration not only in the world of motherhood but also in the philanthropy world. She founded Baby Buggy, a non-profit organization that provides essential clothing, gear and services to families in need, 11 years ago after having her daughter, Sascha. “I grew up with parents who were very very very careful about money. We had a little bit of stress about money,” admitted Jessica. “Money was always an issue with my family growing up. I know what that stress is like to a degree. I always had it when I was putting myself through college and when I got to the city I was struggling.”

The feeling of financial stress led her to start her own organization to help those who also have much of the same feelings. “I felt like when I had my first child almost 12 years ago, ‘How do people do this without worrying and stressing all day long?’ It’s so hard. I was consumed with worry for everyone else and I wanted to do something about it.”

So she did.

“Right after my daghter was born I was fueled and filled with emotions, so I started it right out of my living room. And thanks to amazing friends and family in the city it just took off and people responded to it really quickly. That says more about New York than it really does about me.”

As a fellow New Yorker (after two years, I feel like I can finally call myself that) I see firsthand just how generous those that live here are. Not only are people in the city willing to help others, but there are amazing companies, such as Bravado Designs, that help contribute to those families in need.

“We are lucky that we strike a cord with a lot of the companies and many of them come to us. But we are very careful about who we partner with and we certainly care a lot about a wholesome approach to childhood and child rearing,” said Seinfeld. “We are very fortunate to be attractive to companies that have similiar goals to us and that is helping families in need.”

Although Jessica spends a lot of time making Baby Buggy the amazing organization it is today, she is also a dedicated mother to her three children. As a work at home mom, I was dying to know how she managed life wanting to have a career for herself but also still making sure that her children know she is there for them.

She found her inspiration for having a career from her mother. “My mom worked my whole life and she still works. I was very intrigued by my mothers work life, her work friends, and her life outside of the home. That was really interesting to me. That’s not to say that if she were at home I wouldn’t have appreciated that. It’s just that my life experience is being raised by a working mom so that is what I aspired to be. It’s just really important to me and I feel a lot more fullfilled when I have a lot going on in my life.”

Not only does she find career life important to her, but she finds that the time her children have alone while she is working is important for them. “I feel like my children need a lot of real life experiece. If I am with them all the time, they get less of that. Them doing things that is not constantly with me is much better for them. I always say, raised myself since I was five years old and that is my aspiration for my children.”

With her aspirations and dreams, Seinfeld has made a successful career for herself in Baby Buggy. Originally only helping families in her local city, New York City, now has spread across the nation. It has also brought on more amazing partnerships with fabulous companies, including Rebecca Minkoff and Bravado Designs.

“Rebecca is an amazing supporter of Baby Buggy and she always has been,” gushed Seinfeld. “Bravado has been a partner of ours for several years. We just put all these great minds together and created this great initiative that is going to help a lot of moms across the country.” And it is going to do just that.

With each purchase of the Limited Edition Bravado Designs Nursing Tanks designed by Rebecca Minkoff, 20% of that purchase will go to Baby Buggy. If you purchase the nursing tank at Diapers.com, a nursing tank or nursing bra will be donated to a mother in need.

Mother, author, and philanthropist, Jessica Seinfeld is proving that you can have do it all; helping those in need while still dedicating time to your family.

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I did receive a gift bag for attending the event.
