Avery is 8 Months Old!

Little A turned eight months old yesterday! What an amazing and busy month it has been. I left Avery for the first time this month for three days. Leaving my girls is never easy, but they both handled it incredibly well. Avery has earned a new nickname this month. We are now calling her a little monkey. She is climbing on everything she can get her hands on. I’ve even noticed her attempting to climb the wall. I predict that it will only be a short time before this girl is officially walking!

I’ve compiled some of the fun and exciting things that Avery has done over her eighth month. I love to do this each month (here’s month onemonth twomonth threemonth fourmonth fivemonth six, and month seven) so I can document how she is growing.

Along with climbing on top of everything, Avery has also learned a new trick. She’s learned to dance. Harlan and I were having our nightly dance party the other night and One Direction’s “One Thing” came on and Avery just went crazy. Here’s a video of her showing off her moves:

If you want to see some of my favorite moments from Avery’s eighth month, I showcased some over at Babble!

Month Eight Fun Facts:

  • We didn’t have a doctors appointment this month, but will have one next month! She is still wearing size 3-6 months clothing and probably will for a little while. This girl is teeny.
  • She’s really started a lot more independent play. She has a box of toys in her room and I can spread them out on the floor and she will sit there for the longest time just playing. Harlan will sit down with her and play too. I love watching them together.
  • Avery did her first sign this month. She started signing “milk” when she wants to nurse. As someone who is very passionate about teaching both of my girls sign language at a young age, this was a huge milestone for both me and Avery. She is so close to signing “eat” but it might be a couple weeks before she gets it.
  • She has really been talking up a storm this month. Along with the word mama, she now says bye bye and dada. She will say some other sounds, but not words that we can understand.
  • Her attention span is beginning to get a little bit longer. I’ve noticed her watching some of Harlan’s movies on the television and is engaged for a longer amount of time. The same is with the toys she is playing on the ground.
  • As the temperatures start to drop here in the city, we’ve had to wear jackets more. Avery hates wearing it and despises when I have to put it on. She will sit in her stroller like a little grump because she has her jacket on. She must not be a fan of the cold weather.
  • Avery with through a major sleep regression this month and was waking up several times a night. We are just starting to get back on track and she is slowly starting to sleep through the night again. It must have been a growth spurt, but it was rough on both of us.
  • She now takes two naps a day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) and is in bed between 6:30 and 7:00 at night.
  • She loves to laugh and will do so at the slightest things now. She especially loves to laugh at her sister.
With the rapid development this month, I am both excited and a little nervous to see what month nine will bring!
