As I prepare for my role as a mother of two, it makes me realize just how valuable and important the role of a mother is in a child’s life. I would do anything for my children, as they have brought so much joy and laughter into my life.

Lately I feel my life is getting more hectic by the day. I am working full time from home and still managing to be a stay at home mom to Harlan, all while trying to get as prepared as possible for the arrival of our newest family member. There are many moments during my crazy schedule when I’m feeling stressed and overwhelmed that Harlan will come up to me and put her head on my chest and tell me she loves me. That’s when I know that despite all of my stress and frustration, having her by my side makes it all worth it.

On Tuesday, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Momtrends event for the launch event for Jessica Alba’s new venture, The Honest Company. As Jessica introduced the eco-friendly home essentials to the room full of moms, it became so apparent that this movie star who travels around the world for her career and lives a life that many of us would dream us, is a mother first and foremost.

She glowed as she spoke of her two little girls and her desire to create a safe and healthy environment for them. Instead of following in the footsteps of other celebs and creating a fashion or beauty line, Alba wanted to do something for the people she is truly passionate about; her children and family.

When Alba became a mother three years ago she searched for the perfect baby products for her daugter. “I’ve spent way too many hours researching products and driving around trying to find safer, eco-friendly options for my kids,” she shared. “I knew that most people didn’t have that kind of time, nor the means to pay the premium prices. We had to make it easier.”

So she teamed up with environmentalist, author, and former Healthy Child Healthy World CEO dad Christopher Gavigan, along with business partners ShoeDazzle.com founder Brian Lee and PriceGrabber.com executive Sean Kane, to create The Honest Company, an eco-friendly line of family essentials.

The Honest company not only makes their products safe for parents and their children, but they also make it convenient. All of their products are offered through a monthly subscription service at Honest.com.

What I admired most of Jessica was her honest take on motherhood. Like many moms, she has a crazy and hectic life, while still trying to juggle a husband and two children. But unlike many of us moms care to admit, Alba confessed that she can’t juggle it all, and she doesn’t pretend to.

Being a mother is her number one priority and what’s most important to her. So if she has to put off an email so she can watch the dance her daughter just made up, so be it.

Just four months ago, Jessica welcomed her second daughter, Haven. Seeing as my life is going to parallel hers in that way in just over a month, I wanted to know how she managed to make the transition so smooth for her 3-year old daughter Honor and what life is like with two little girls in her house.

Again, she admitted that she can’t juggle it all {I LOVE her honesty on this!} but she did make sure to include Honor in everything during her pregnancy and after Haven was born. “I want her to feel included. She’s part of washing the baby, changing the diaper. I have a stepping stool so she can hand me the wipe.” she told me.

She also emphasized to Honor how great it was to be a big girl and all of the amazing things that she can do as a big girl that babies can’t do. “I told her before the baby came, how cool is it that you get to eat desserts and you get to play dress up and go on swings by yourself? The baby doesn’t get to do any of that. How awesome is it to be a big girl?!”

The candidness that she showed me in just the few minutes I had a chance to speak with her, proved that no matter how different our lives may be, we still have something that connects us, we are both mothers. And despite how crazy and hectic life can get, we won’t let that hinder us from our most important role in life; motherhood.

I’m excited to check out this new line! You will be great at juggling two little ones. It took me a little time to get in a routine of two – but once you get going, it’s a breeze! So excited for you…and I love that diaper bag you won. Super cute!

I also enjoyed that Jessica Alba said their is no perfect balance between being a Mom and an entrepreneur so you have to compromise on days and not be #1 at anything!
