War Horse Red Carpet World Premiere

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being invited to a Disney and DreamWorks filled weekend right in my own backyard. The weekend included two nights stay at the Essex House, Mary Poppins on Broadway, a tour or New Amsterdam Theatre, a sneak peek of Tangled Ever After and Beauty and the Beast 3D, and the Red Carpet World Premiere of War Horse.

The idea of attending a red carpet premiere has always been a dream of mine and knowing that it is a Steven Spielberg film made it even more incredible.

War Horse, a successful children’s book turned international theatrical hit now on Broadway, and now a major motion picture, is a remarkable story of a boy named Albert and his incredible relationship with his horse, Joey. Set in England during the first world war, the story takes you on a journey through adventure, loyalty, saddness, and hope.

The setting for the movie premiere could not be anymore glamorous. New York’s Lincoln Center was glowing as stars including Jessica Capshaw, Phylicia Rashad,and Ed Westwick walked down the red carpet. Most of the cast of the film including Emily Watson, David Kross, Jeremy Irvine, Patrick Kennedy, Tom Hiddleston, David Thewlis, Toby Kebbell, and Mr. Spielberg himself attended the dazzling premiere. Unfortunately, the star of the film, Joey {who was made up of 14 horses throughout the film} did not make an appearance that night.

As attendees got settled in the theatre, Steven Spielberg walked out on stage to introduce the film as well as the cast. It was amazing to be no more than 10 feet away from one of the most brilliant and talented directors of all time.

The film itself brings you on an emotional journey {and that’s not my pregnancy hormones speaking.} After Albert trains the young horse Joey, they are forced apart during World War I. The story then leads you on an incredible journey as the horse battles war and touches the lives of both Britain and German soldiers, a young French girl, and others.

The most captivating part of the film is that it so eloquently tells the story of World War I and much of the devastation that it caused. Although not gory, the film draws you to create an emotional connection to Joey as well as the many people he comes into contact with on his journey all while beautifully telling a climatic and devastating time in our world’s history.

The most breathtaking scene of the movie is in one called No Man’s Land. I’m not going to give anymore away than that, because it is too good and emotional to describe in my own words.

Although not a movie you want to bring young children to {it’s rated PG-13,} War Horse is definitely a movie worth taking the older kids to or maybe even a date night.

As the sniffles from the audience started to fade and the movie ended we made our way to the lobby and brushed shoulders with stars from the film as well as Tony Danza, Adrian Brody, and Eriq La Salle while eating delicious foods at the premiere party.

The night was a dream come true!
