Today was my first day back in the gym in over 2 months. My morning sickness has really grounded me to my apartment and to the places that Harlan needs to be. For the past 17 weeks, the thought of going to the gym and sweating made me nauseous.

The past two mornings I have woken up feeling surprisingly well. Yesterday was the first day since I found out that I was pregnant that I went without my Zofran {although I did take it last night before I went to bed as a precautionary for this morning.} I woke up this morning, not feeling quite as well as yesterday, but still feeling good enough to go to the gym. I texted a friend hoping that she would meet me there to motivate me to do more, but because of Rosh Hashanah, she couldn’t make it. So that meant that, after two months of being lazy on the couch and bed, I had to get up and take myself to the gym. Alone.

When I was pregnant with Harlan I was at the gym everyday. Before I got pregnant with her I was in the best shape of my life and I wasn’t going to let the pregnancy throw me for a loop. I made sure that everyday after school got out I was at the gym for at least an hour if not more. I was doing cardio, lifting weights, and LOVED doing squats. I worked out up until the week she was born.

It definitely helped with my recovery, but unfortunately my workout regimen stopped shortly after Harlan came into the world. Between MacKay moving and me being a “single” mom, the gym was the least of my priorities.

Once I moved to the city I made sure to get a gym with great childcare so that I could start feeling better about the way I looked. I was at the gym everyday until about two months ago.

I stepped into the gym today knowing I wouldn’t be able to do quite as much as I was able to a couple of months ago, but motivated enough to work my way back there. Pregnant or not, I am going to get my body back {just with an expanding belly.}

I made it an hour today. Thirty minutes on the elliptical, thirty on the bike. I’m not expecting to look like a pregnant Heidi Klum, but you’ve got to start somewhere.

How do you motivate yourself to get in shape?

I’m 38 weeks along with baby #2 now and manage to get to the gym at least 3x/week still. I usually like to do classes (total body conditioning, yoga, spinning, step, etc) to motivate me to be active for at least an hour, and all these classes can be easily modified for pregnant ladies. The first time around I paid for a lot of special “prenatal” classes that were nice for meeting other moms-to-be but really not worth the money in retrospect. Anyway, as I get further along it definitely gets harder to drag myself and my toddler to the gym, but I always always feel better after I go, even if it’s just for a super low-key workout. Congrats on getting back and good luck keeping it up!

That’s great that you’re back at the gym. It’s so hard to get back into a routine sometimes after a break. You look incredible anyways – but I’m sure the working out will help with relaxation and be so good for the baby!! xo

Ah! Congratulations! How are along are you?!

I’m 16 weeks along & I’ve felt terrible too! I’ve done nothing, thus one of the reasons I even quit blogging.

So awesome you got to work out! Hope you start feeling tons better soon!

I was wondering if this is why you have been away for so long!!! Congrats!! I am 17 weeks. It’s been hard to keep up with it, but I am finally starting to feel better and slowly take myself off of my meds. Do you know what you are having?
